Does a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! plus a Mercedes diesel equal $2300? No, I don't think so, either. I couldn't find Graverobber's original post, but I remember this thing.

That looks like the engine from w123 D. This truck must be a dog

It probably isn't any less powerful than the factory 4 cylinder.

Almost bought one of those this summer. It was an 88 or 89 with the Mercedes 5 cylinder turbo. If it had a manual i would have bought it. Unfortunately it had the Mercedes 4 spd auto on it.

So it's a questionable platform (rust, wear, tear, shit handling) and you plunk a very heavy engine (indestructible) in the front end and hope for the best? Take the engine out and put it in something that won't rust away to nothing.

If it wouldn't be for all the rust I would call it NP. but you would need to spend probably another $2300 just in rust repairs so I'm with you on this one CP.

I honestly don't know why they made the effort to do such a conversion but start out with a piece of junk to begin with.

really they should of done that with a chevette. that would of been pretty awesome and it would of gave the vette a major boost in power.

Definitely. It's bizzare to go through all that work on something with no rocker panels left.

Exactly.

Well, the factory 4-popper was a dog with something in the range of 120hp. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but these Merc deisels were in the double digit range for horsepower.

My issue isn't so much with the swap, but rather that they did all this work to a rusted out hulk. Seriously, the thing has no rocker panels left.

Nah, this particular engine makes anywhere from 120-125 hp and around 170 ft lbs, plus the IP can be adjusted to crank out a little more. But yeah, they really could have done this to something that wasn't going to snap in half in a couple of years.
